- How should I start using Contacts Journal?
- You can start by importing contacts from your iPhone contacts list, by pressing the Add button on the first page. On the Import Contacts page, you can select more than one contact at a time, or select all, and press Add. You could also create new contact from scratch; bear in mind that any new contacts you create will also be added to the iPhone contacts list.
- What do I do with the contacts I've added?
- Click on any contact's name to get to their Details page, where you can switch between Logs and To-Do views to see old entries. To enter a new Log or To-Do, just click the Add button above. You can also quickly call, SMS or email that contact from this page, as well as edit any information saved in the iPhone Contacts.
- Can I Log for when I make a call or send an email? When you make a call, send an SMS or email someone through the app, it creates a Log for you automatically. This is a great way to keep track of all the phone calls you've made, and take quick notes after the call is done. Unfortunately, due to Apple's restrictions, we cannot record the contents of the email or SMS.
- How to delete an entry (contact / logs / events)?
- You can delete any Contact, Log or Event by swiping across the row, and pressing the delete button that comes up.
- How do I export my data?
- You can export all the Logs for a contact via email. Go to More -> Reporting, and choose any contact. It will create an email for you with all that contact's logs.
- How do I backup my data?
- You can backup your data using the Backup over WiFi or Backup over Email features. To backup over WiFi, you will need another computer connected to the same WiFi network as your iPhone. Once you create a backup, store the backup file somewhere safe. If you ever need to restore the data, you can use the Restore feature, and upload this backup file to the iPhone.
- You can also backup your data by syncing with iTunes and backing up your phone. This will backup the data from all 3rd party apps for you.
- How do I sync between the iPhone and iPad versions?
- Unfortunately, there's no automatic way to sync data between the iPhone and iPad. You can copy data from one device to another, by creating a backup file on one device, and using that file to Restore on the other. Please make sure that you sync the same set of iPhone Contacts between those 2 devices as well.
- How do I add password-protection?
- You can click on the More tab; go to Pin Settings, and turn on Pin Protection. Please remember the PIN, as there is no way to recover the PIN should it be lost.
- How do you support contact groups?
- You can use existing contact groups you have made to filter your list of contacts, and filter the list of Logs and To-Dos. As of now, you cannot add or edit the groups themselves. You can add groups using the Address Book app on the Mac, or any 3rd party app from the App Store.
- Does Contacts Journal have an alarm to notify me when the To-Do item is due?
- Yes. Contacts Journal uses iOS 4's new Local Notifications feature to remind you when you have an important event coming up. You don't even need a network connection to receive the alert.
How can I change the sorting order of my contacts?
In your iPhone Settings, go to "Mail, Contacts, Calendars". In the Contacts section, you can change the sort order of the contacts, as well as the display order.
